Metal Source Acquires Bedford Recycling Inc.

The company has gained a wire chopping line, an auto shredder, and other processing capabilities.

Metal Source’s Operations

Headquartered in Wabash, Indiana, it has been announced by Metal Source LLC, that the firm has acquired the assets of Bedford Recycling Inc. The recycler operated locations in both Bedford and Mitchell, Indiana.

Metal Source performs a variety of recycling operations via its Recycling Center, Aluminum Reclamation Division, and Milling Division.

The recycling center handles various grades of scrap metal obtained from both public and commercial sources. The material is processed by several pieces of equipment including forklifts, skid-steers, nonferrous balers, alligator shears, excavators, and torches. After being separated and upgraded into various grades, the metals are repackaged and made available for sale back in the metal industry.

Metal Source’s aluminum reclamation division utilizes an aluminum reverb furnace which is critical for processing irony aluminum. When executed properly, the furnace will separate the aluminum from the iron and produce a “sow”. This lump of metal is a solid block weighing around 1,000 pounds, however, the sows produced by Metal Source are slightly heavier at 1,300. Afterwards, the byproducts are removed before going through the process again.

The milling division focuses on pulverizing metal scrap into smaller pieces. This process involves splitting the metals apart and distinguishing different sizes of concentrates from the material. Included in these metals are Aluminum turnings and Aluminum dross.

The Company’s Mission

Metal Source maintains a stance that in order to benefit society, the economy, and the environment alike, having access to the ideal methods, machinery, and processes is essential for transforming raw materials into green and reusable sources. This contributes not only towards a sustainable future but also helps create a steady improvement in global wellbeing.

The company’s mission echoes these sentiments stating that its goal is to have a, “commitment and dedication to the community, employees, and future generations in the operations of recycling and conversion of various types of industrial waste and consumer refuse.”

Rapid Expansion

Metal Source’s aggressive expansion into Indiana began in 2021 with two significant acquisitions: Decatur Salvage, a 12-acre metals recycling facility on US 27 in Decatur, and Secondary Metals, operating a 2-acre yard near Peru, Indiana. Continuing its expansion into 2022, Metal Source then acquired Huntington Aluminum located in Huntington, Indiana.

Bedford’s facilities also have an auto shredder at the Bedford location, which marks Metal Source’s first shredder. The site additionally possesses further processing capabilities for ferrous and nonferrous materials, and includes a wire chopping line.

This brings Metal Source’s total to nine sites, as the organization also has scrap yards in Wabash, Peru, and Decatur as well as plants in Wabash, Huntington and Marion which generate 356 sow and ingot, aluminum de-ox products and 380 sow and ingot.

“I’m thrilled to announce this purchase,” the CEO of Metal Source and Gebhart Holdings, Ben Gebhart stated. “This will allow our company to expand our capabilities and footprint, as well as allow for integration and diversification within our current business. Geographically, this will allow for additional support in the area for other businesses we service.”

Colin P Denihan, Metal Source chief commercial officer, added “The Parsons family has built a successful business and a legacy with Bedford Recycling. We look forward to instilling our Metal Source core values and growing the operations.”
